Census Worker Hanged

This is horrific:

When Bill Sparkman told retired trooper Gilbert Acciardo that he was going door-to-door collecting census data in rural Kentucky, the former cop drawing on years of experience warned: "Be careful."

The 51-year-old Sparkman was found hanged from a tree near a Kentucky cemetery and had the word "fed" scrawled on his chest, a law enforcement official said Wednesday, and the FBI is investigating whether he was a victim of anti-government sentiment.

With Faux News ranting about FEMA concentration camps and Michele Bachmann fearmongering over the Census, I guarantee that this tragedy will not be the last.

Words have consequences.

  1. No way, how terrible is that? I hope the FBI can get more details. That word FED scrawled on his chest is gruesome. What kind of person would do that?

  2. I assume the US has equivalent laws against incitement to crimes... I'm pretty sure I can figure out where the feds can find Glenn Beck and the other instigators of trouble.

Unfortunately, the ordinary kind, you and me. We so badly want to believe that evil is something inhuman, but it isn't.

The good news is, that if evil, like good, is human, then we can decide. It isn't dumped on us from some inaccessible part of the cosmos... it IS us and it's up to us.
