Break Out the Bubbly! Barack Did It!

There was a lot of screaming and jumping up-and-down in the Hunter household last night.

He did this thing.

Judging from what he's done in the past, I don't doubt he's going to go all the way.

I shall be very proud indeed to have Barack Hussein Obama as my President.

As for those of you who don't like it, Spider Jerusalem said it best when he said:

You can kiss me in the same place as his KISS HERE tattoo. I'm sure it won't take a rocket scientist or comic book geek to figure out where that might be.

PC: I'm not sure what you're getting at, here. I haven't had the time to watch the video, so I don't know if that's verbatim, a parody, or what. (I have my theories, but don't want to make any assumptions about where you're coming from.)

Sincerely,

me

PS not bin fed since that Pastor guy last week...

@Woozle: Deepest apologies! I should have made arrangements before the week turned to total chaos. I have put out a call, and hopefully someone will deliver some food very soon.

In the meantime, it looks like PC's trying to fill the void in your belly. It's only a dinner mint, but at least it's something.

@Progressive Conservative: Why do you hang about on liberal atheist blogs if we disgust you so? If you can't add something of substance to the discourse, go troll elsewhere.

'Liberal atheist blogs' ?

I wasn't aware you were so militant in your atheism that you added it to the description of your blog Dana. If so, that's unfortunate because it's such a waste of time. Why not stick to politics where you might actually be able to make some progress? If you or 'Woozle' got the impression that I care about your atheist leanings, go back and re-read my comments. I'm no defender of Christianity. I'm just someone who dislike evangelism from religious folks AND atheists.

As for my comments here - it couldn't be helped. Obama ruined what was a decent speech with his last paragraph containing all those 'This was the moment.." lines. It was arrogant, over-reaching and over-selling his potential to get much accomplished.

PC, only you could make the leap from "Liberal atheist" to "militant atheist." That's precious. Apparently, any atheist that's outspoken about their atheism is "militant" in your eyes.

As to your claim that your comments "couldn't be helped," of course they could. Don't post them.

From our friends at Meriam Webster:

militant - aggressively active

Your recent posts seem to fit that bill. Like I said, it disappoints me because I like your take on politics, even if I disagree with your liberal leanings. It's your site so by all means, proceed as you wish, but for me it gets tedious digging through the atheist stuff to look for your enjoyable political writings.

As for my comments, it was not my intent to offend and given the level of 'snark' on your site I guess I thought you would enjoy a chuckle. Clearly I was wrong.

"Militant atheism". Ha. That one's always good for a fuckin' laugh. I just love how a Muslim has to blow up a car before he gets to be a "militant jihadist radical", but I get to be a militant atheist as soon as a put a Darwin Fish on my car. Atheism: the lazy man's route to militancy. In-fuckin'-credible. It gives you a nice opportunity for equivocation, too: call somebody "militant" based on Webster's definition #2 and imply they're just as bad as the people called "militant" based on definition #1, which is the one about being "engaged in warfare or combat".

For the record, I also think it's pretty absurd to call an environmentalist or a conservationist "militant" until they've blown up their first dam. Call it my little way of showing my respect for our men and women in uniform: you get to be "militant" when you shoot people. Until then, you're just angry, uppity and a pain in the ass — all of which descriptors I merrily own.

And while I'm being an uppity pain in the ass, I wanna know: what about all the militant Christians? You know, the ones openly flaunting their medieval beliefs on light-up boards outside their churches, self-identifying as "Christian" on their blogs, sticking Bible-verse bumper stickers on their cars, writing books, buying books, et cetera, ad nauseam. Ain't nothing Dana or I do in the way of group identity that they don't do on a far grander scale. Militant bastards, aren't they?

Goddamn double standard.

Geez, I wish someone would actually read my comments once in awhile.

I've stated several times on this blog that I have no more respect for evangelical or militant christians and than I do for evangelical or militant atheists. They are simply the yin and the yang of one big, stupid problem, i.e. people pushing their beliefs (or non-beliefs) on others.

Atheists and Christians that keep their propaganda to themselves get high props from me. The point is, I don't like extremists of any bent.

You can trade in militant for any term you want, but the general meaning is still the same.

The ugliest aspect of the whole thing is that since evangelicals were given so much power by the GOP, atheism is now seen as a political force as well. The vast majority of America has no interest in either side and would just prefer they both shut the hell up.

@PC - I appreciate that you like my take on politics. At least now I know why you drop by. However, this blog is not all about politics - so if you find it tedious digging through the other stuff, I suggest you make use of the tags to find what you want.

Like it or not, atheism is going to become vocal, and as it becomes vocal, it will enter politics. I do understand that the wanna-know-nothings in the middle are going to get caught between two extremes and probably deafened by the noise. Too fucking bad. The moderates were too busy being quiet and accomodating to keep the religious right in check. You've never told me just what the grand plan is for Christians to clean their own house. Until I see a broom in hand, I'm going to consider it the job of the godless and the outspoken strict-separationists to beat back the onslaught. We've given the fundies too much air to breathe as it is.

And yes, I read every single one of your comments. So do others. Apparently, we've misunderstood your intent a few times - that's your failing, not ours. You were trying to be funny with the Obama comments? Wasn't. They came across as mean-spirited and insulting. You might have gotten yuks on a more conservative blog, but here among the liberals, the joke's a dud. Know your audience, and realize that if more than one person doesn't get what you're trying to say, you need to be clearer about the message.

You'd like to see more politics from me. I'll tell you what I want to see from you: less whining and more substance. I know you can contribute something to the dialogue. Telling atheists on an atheist blog that you wish they'd shut up, calling them militants for speaking out, and making jokes suggesting Obama thinks he's Christ - that's not substance. It's verging a little too close to trolling for my taste.

You can disagree. You can argue with us. In fact, I like opposing viewpoints in my comments as long as they're substantive. But I'd suggest you learn how to debate wisely.

@Blake - I must not be a true militant, damn it. I haven't got a Darwin fish yet. Maybe when I get mine, I should give him some explosives. Then I can tell people who call me militant for being vocal, "No, you've got it wrong - I'm definition #2. The fish is definiton #1."

Heh.
